Asthma and obestiy are the two top health concerns in New York City, and people who live in low-income parts of the city are at a greater risk of developing these conditions. East Harlem has the highest rate of ashtma in the country, with household mold being one of the leading causes. The rate of childhood obesity in New York City is over twice the national average. If not monitored and controlled, childhood obesity puts kids at risk for chronic disease like asthma, type 2 diabetes and other health problems. In our podcast, we explore why these diseases are on the rise and what specific communities are doing about it.
